In the realm of inner work, the play between negative and positive thoughts or traits is often misunderstood. Much like the bacteria that dwell in our bodies—some helpful, others harmful—these inner forms have their own logic, purpose, and evolutionary role in our psyche. Negative thought forms aren’t inherently "bad" just as positive thought forms aren’t rosy and "good". It’s only when imbalance occurs—when any particular thought-form is excessively fed, consciously or not—that we begin to see consequences: anxiety, inner fragmentation, or even physical dis-ease.

Throughout spiritual history, cultures across the globe have developed methods to identify, honour, and transform such energies. In many shamanistic traditions, for example, these thought-forms are understood as energetic beings or “entities” that may attach to a person during periods of vulnerability or trauma. Rather than banishing them in fear, traditional healers engage with them through purification rites, sacred chants, herbal smudging, and the use of grounding tools like crystals and stones—each serving as a bridge between the seen and unseen worlds.

Crystals, in particular, are believed to amplify intentions and stabilize subtle energy fields. Black tourmaline, labradorite and obsidian, for instance, are traditionally used for protection and for absorbing excess energetic charge—akin to “starving” a negative entity of the environment it thrives in. These stones and crystals may also act as a kind of energetic “buffer” between the individual and invasive forces. They may also transmute dense or harmful vibrations into more beneficial vibrations, or deflect their energy path elsewhere. In other cases, ceremonies are used to gently “extract” the entity or to invite it into a dormant state where it no longer interferes with the individual’s wellbeing.

Crystals have long been revered for their protective and absorptive capacities—not merely as symbolic tools, but as conscious participants in energetic ecology. Interestingly, there may be no coincidence in the etymological resonance between crystal, Christ, and Christ Consciousness (personal gnosis of the writer). While Christ Consciousness refers to a universal field of divine awareness and compassion, this should not be confused with the crystallization of thought forms—whether light or shadow—into archetypes. The structure of crystal-formation generates a specific spiritual field, that can intentionally be manipulated by a skilled and experienced spiritual practitioner. The crystalline matrix can be seen to represent a form of spiritual architecture—one that reflects and organizes archetypal energies. In this sense, crystals are not just tools, but foundational elements in the geometry of creation itself.

Not every negative form is meant to be removed or manipulated by crystals or other practices. Sometimes, the act of trying to expel a negative entity feeds it further, giving it greater psychological charge. This is where the guidance of an experienced spiritual coach becomes vital. Through attuned presence and deep listening, the coach helps the client to discern what must be released, what must be integrated, and what must simply be acknowledged with compassion.

This is not about waging war on your inner world. It is about tending to your inner ecosystem, lovingly bringing it back into balance, and remembering that every part of you—even the shadow—is part of the wholeness that you are.
